As I write this blog I'm sitting in the back seat of our family car on a four hour drive to my grandma's 95th birthday party. Over the past week her children have been writing Grandma's life story and sharing it via email to all of us so we can contribute and read.
Grandma moved into a nursing about two years ago after she broke her hip and also was diagnosed with dementia. The dementia is progressing, but slowly which is a blessing in most ways to us as we get to hold onto the wonderful women for a bit longer, but also a curse in that she knows she is no longer living in her own home and has lost her independence and control she once had over her life.
From Grandma's life story I have pulled out key information and started a one page profile that will be added to over the weekend as I talk to relatives and family friends about my Grandma Cordie. I see the purpose of this profile being to describe my grandma for us to have to remember her, and for those that support her to get to know her a bit as we do.
